LAW CLERK

713.589.5103 OFFICE

David Nixon is a law clerk at Mo Lovett Law and is a J.D. candidate at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, set to graduate in May 2026. He is in the top 20% of his class and has earned CALI Awards in First Amendment & Agency & Partnership courses. David is also the Co-Chairman of the Board for the South Texas Advocacy Program and is the current Executive Editor and former research editor for Currents: Journal of International Economic Law

This year, he secured South Texas’s 147th national championship by winning the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation National Moot Court Competition, where he argued before leading energy and natural resources legal professionals in Lexington, Kentucky.

In Spring 2025, David and his team were published in the STCL Currents Journal: The Crossroads of International Arbitration, Finance, and Investments where they examined emerging issues in AI governance. David’s contribution focused on international regulatory framework various countries are adopting, and what, if any, of these approaches ought to be adopted by the United States by examining AI’s influence on innovation, protections from dangerous actions by AI platforms, and AI’s influence on national economic performance.

Before law school, David earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. After graduation, he joined FieldCore, where he worked as a field engineer on power and steam generation projects across the U.S. His focus was on boilers and back-end environmental control equipment, including electrostatic precipitators, where he created inspection reports and ensured compliance with environmental regulations.

Outside of work and school, David stays active in Houston’s community — serving as Nights Out Co-Chair for the Houston Young Lawyers Association, sitting on the World Affairs Council’s Global Young Professionals Strategic Planning Committee, a member of the Leadership Committee for RedM The Movement, and volunteering as a Contest Supervisor for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest.
